Study to show yourselves approved! ( 2 Tim 2:15 )

2 Timothy 2:15

"Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth."

Apostle Paul instructed his disciple Timothy to be diligent in presenting himself approved by God, how? by rightly dividing the word
of Truth."
What or who is the source of Truth?
(John 14:6)
Jesus saith unto him, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life: no one comes unto the Father, but by me. "

  1. Life is so much easier when a person agrees and accepts doctrines which are popular. I am speaking about Orthodoxy which came straight out of the Catholic church and her creed. The apostasy Apostle Paul warned fellow Christians about.
(1 Timothy 4:1) "Now the Spirit explicitly says that in the last times some will depart from the faith, paying attention to deceitful spirits and teachings of demons, by the hypocrisy of liars, who are seared in their own conscience, who forbid marrying and insist on abstaining from foods that God created for sharing in with thankfulness by those who believe and who know the truth, because everything created by God is good and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with thankfulness, for it is made holy by the word of God and prayer."
    (2 Thessalonians 2:3)
" Now we beg you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our gathering together to him, that ye be not soon shaken in mind, nor troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter, as [if it were] by us, as that the day of the Lord is present. Let not any one deceive you in any manner, because [it will not be] unless the apostasy have first come, and the man of sin have been revealed, the son of perdition"
The scriptures indicate that God will chastise those who twist and pervert the scriptures, not holding true to the teachings of God through his son.

    (Hosea 5:2)
And they have plunged themselves in the corruption of apostasy, but I will be a chastiser of them all."

We certainly do not want to be among those who are to be chastised and put to shame for holding fast to false teachings. One may ask, "but how do I know whether they are false or not? Isn't what is widely accepted by other Christians proof they are true doctrine?"

God got after King David for counting or numbering Israel, why? because he did not want Israel to put their trust in their own arm, but rather, to put their trust in their one God.
And besides, what did the scriptures say about how many would find truth? FEW would find it! So this does not indicate that the majority are finding the truth.
    (Matthew 7:14)
"For narrow the gate and straitened the way that leads to life, and they are few who find it."
And so my beloved, do not trust religious doctrine because you see the majority accept it, but be like the Beroean and seach the scriptures to see whether or not a doctrine is in accord to our Messiahs' word.

It is a hard to be unpopular, after all, our Messiah said, "Pick up your cross and follow me" showing us it will not be easy nor popular.

    Matthew 10:39
"He that finds his life shall lose it, and he who has lost his life for my sake shall find it."
    Matthew 5:11
"Blessed are you when they may reproach and persecute you, and say every wicked thing against you, lying, for my sake."

How strong is your desire to seek the Truth?

  2. THE IMPORTANCE OF SEEKING GOD

I gathered a few scriptures to share with you concerning our need to seek God. I hope you enjoy these and perhaps you would like to share a few yourself. I would welcome them.

    (2 Chronicles 19:3)
Nevertheless there are good things found in thee; for thou hast put away the Asherahs out of the land, and hast directed your heart to seek God."

Our God is looking for those who 'seek God', this is good and pleasing in his eyes.

    (2 Chronicles 31:21)
"And in every work that he undertook in the service of the house of God, and in the law, and in the commandments, to seek his God, he did it with all his heart and prospered."

    (Psalm 22:26)
"The meek shall eat and be satisfied; they shall praise Jehovah that seek him: your heart shall live for ever."

    (Psalm 53:2)
"God looked down from the heavens upon the children of men, to see if there were any that did understand, that did seek God."

    (Psalm 70:4)
"Let all those that seek thee be glad and rejoice in thee, and let such as love thy salvation say continually, Let God be magnified!"

    (Psalm 119:2)
"Blessed are they that observe his testimonies, that seek him with the whole heart"

    (Isaiah 26:9)
"With my soul have I desired thee in the night; yea, with my spirit within me I seek thee early: for when thy judgments are in the earth, the inhabitants of the world learn righteousness."

    (Isaiah 45:19)
"I have not spoken in secret, in a dark place of the earth; I said not unto the seed of Jacob, Seek me in vain: I [am] Jehovah, speaking righteousness, declaring things which are right."

    (Isaiah 55:6-7)
"Seek ye Jehovah while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near. Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts; and let him return unto Jehovah, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon."

    (Daniel 9:3)
"And I set my face unto the Lord God, to seek by prayer and supplications, with fasting, and sackcloth, and ashes"

    (Zephaniah 2:3)
"Seek Jehovah, all ye meek of the land, who have performed his ordinance; seek righteousness, seek meekness: it may be ye shall be hid in the day of Jehovah's anger."

    (Matthew 6:33)
"But seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you."

    (Luke 13:24)
"Strive with earnestness to enter in through the narrow door, for many, I say to you, will seek to enter in and will not be able."

    (Hebrews 11:6)
"But without faith [it is] impossible to please [him]. For he that draws near to God must believe that he is, and [that] he is a rewards them who seek him out." ( look at creation)

Get hold of a concordance, do your own word studies, and seek out those hidden treasures our God has written for us. Seek and you will find, ask and it will be given to you, but ask in faith. ( Matt 7:7)
    God bless~
